Zelis CTO : Blockchain technology essential to the healthcare industry
Healthcare payments company Zelis has called for healthcare providers to utilize blockchain technology to secure customer data and payment networks.

The CTO of healthcare payments company Zelis, Kalo Dugampudi, believes that blockchain implementation in the healthcare sector is important to protecting patients’ sensitive data from cyber criminals.
The main concern that payers and providers have is providing private information via email, as emails are an easy target for attackers.
“Blockchain technology has the potential to alleviate many of these concerns. Since the information cannot be modified or copied, blockchain technology vastly reduces security risks, giving hospital and healthcare IT organizations a much stronger line of defense against cybercriminals,” said Durgampudi while speaking with Health IT news.
The CTO also went on to note that blockchain can play a key role in healthcare payments, providing greater transparency and efficiency over current payments methods.
“Blockchain provides both payers and providers with complete visibility into the entire lifecycle of a claim, from the patient registering at the front desk to disputing a cost to sending an explanation of benefits,” he added.
