Swiss crypto bank Seba rebrands to Amina amid global expansion.

Swiss crypto bank Seba has announced a rebranding and will now be known as Amina as part of its global expansion plans. The decision to change the name was made to avoid confusion with SEB Bank in Sweden, with both institutions agreeing to the name change in 2023. The new name, Amina, is derived from the term “transamination,” which signifies the transfer of one compound to another. This reflects the bank’s goal of bringing together traditional, digital, and crypto banking.

Seba’s rebranding comes as the bank seeks to expand its trading services worldwide. It recently obtained a license from the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, allowing it to offer crypto trading services in the country. Additionally, Seba has received permission from Abu Dhabi Global Market to provide financial services and has opened an office in Abu Dhabi. The bank aims to accelerate the growth of its strategic hubs in Switzerland, Hong Kong, and Abu Dhabi while continuing its global expansion.

Amina’s operations will remain unchanged despite the name change, and existing clients will not be affected. The bank will continue to offer traditional and crypto banking services globally, building on its established regulated hubs in Zug, Hong Kong, and Abu Dhabi. Amina has been a key player in the cryptocurrency ecosystem since its launch in 2018, facilitating crypto-related services for numerous financial institutions.

In November 2023, Amina partnered with Switzerland’s St.Galler Kantonalbank, one of the country’s largest banks, to provide its clients with digital asset custody and brokerage services. The bank’s CEO, Franz Bergmueller, stated that the focus for the near future will be on Switzerland, Abu Dhabi, and the APAC region, including Hong Kong and Singapore.

The rebranding of Seba to Amina reflects the bank’s commitment to innovation and its aim to consolidate different aspects of banking. The new name signifies the bank’s mission to combine traditional banking practices with digital and crypto banking solutions. With its continued global expansion, Amina aims to remain at the forefront of the evolving cryptocurrency industry, providing comprehensive services to its clients.
