NFT Brand Pudgy Penguins Debuts Toy Collection in 2,000 Walmart Stores.

Walmart, the largest retailer in the world, is joining forces with Pudgy Penguins, an NFT collection, to bring Pudgy toys to its 2,000 stores across the United States. This collaboration will allow customers to purchase a range of Pudgy toys, including Plush Buddies, Clip-on Plushes, Igloo Collectibles, and Action Figures, with prices ranging from $2.99 to $11.97.

These toys are unique because each provides access to Pudgy World, a multiplayer digital social platform built on the Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain network called zkSync Era. Pudgy World enables users to create their “Forever Pudgy” characters, engage in mini-games, and interact with other players.

In addition to the standard Pudgy toy offerings, Walmart will feature exclusive items such as Ice Chrome and Gold Chrome collectible figures hidden inside mystery Igloos. A Blind Box will also be available, containing a surprise Clip-On Plush. These Walmart-exclusive toys aim to provide an exciting experience for customers.

Brittany Smith, the vice president of merchandising for toys at Walmart U.S., expressed excitement about the collaboration, stating that Pudgy Penguins is engagingly bridging the gap between physical and digital play. Smith also highlighted that the price range of Pudgy Toys aligns with Walmart’s commitment to providing affordable products.

Each Pudgy toy has a unique birth certificate that allows users to claim unique traits for their digital Forever Pudgy character by scanning a QR code within Pudgy World. The designs of the toys incorporate elements from popular NFT collections like Meebits and DeGods. Notably, the current owners of corresponding NFTs will receive licensing royalties for each Pudgy toy sold at Walmart.

Furthermore, Walmart customers purchasing Pudgy toys will have the chance to find a golden ticket, granting them access to a rare trait for their Forever Pudgy Penguin in Pudgy World. This adds an element of excitement and exclusivity to the toy-buying experience.

Pudgy Toys and Pudgy World were initially launched in May 2023 to merge NFTs and blockchain technology with physical toys. They are also available for purchase on Amazon. PMI Kids’ World, the company responsible for producing toys for popular franchises like Fortnite and Among Us, manufactures Pudgy toys.

Pudgy Penguins is currently the nineteenth largest NFT collection in terms of sales volume, according to CryptoSlam data. The collection, consisting of 8,888 NFTs featuring cartoon penguins, was launched in 2021. It was sold to entrepreneur Luca Netz for $2.5 million in 2022 after the project’s founders were removed by community vote due to unfulfilled promises.
