Jack Dorsey’s Decentralized Social Project, Bluesky, Now Open to the Public.

Bluesky, a new social media app, is now available to everyone. Jack Dorsey, the founder of Twitter, backed the app. It aims to be a different option from the X platform, which used to be Twitter.

Bluesky faces a big challenge. There are already many big social media apps like Twitter and Mastodon. Even though Bluesky got 3 million people to sign up before it launched, it still has a tough job. Threads has 130 million users, and Mastodon has 1.8 million users.

What makes Bluesky special is its technology. It comes from Twitter, but it wants to make a new way of social media. It’s called the AT Protocol. Bluesky is also open-source. This means anyone can see how it works and even change it. The CEO, Jay Graber, says this openness allows for more innovation.

Bluesky wants to give users more control. It’s different from Instagram because it’s decentralized. This means users can have more say in how things work. Mastodon has been doing this since 2016, but it’s complicated. Bluesky wants to make it easier.

They are trying out something new called open federation. This lets people make their servers as Mastodon does. Users can pick which server they like and switch without losing anything. Also, Blue sky will let users make their moderation rules, which means they can decide what’s okay on their platform.

But, there are worries. Giving too much power to users can be risky. Blue sky is trying to deal with this by limiting harmful content and making it harder to find. These are big problems that all decentralized platforms face.

In short, Bluesky is a new social media app that wants to do things differently. It’s open-source, decentralized, and gives users more control. But it has to compete with big apps like Twitter and Mastodon.
