Epic Games will not ban NFTs in their games

Following reports Minecraft developer Mojang Studios banned NFT integrations in its games, Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney has confirmed that the company “ won’t” ban NFTs in its games. Minecraft’s move was seen as highly controversial in the NFT community. The developers of Minecraft said they believe that the speculative aspects of NFTs, along with scarcity and risks of exclusion and scams supposedly associated with NFTs is against the game’s principles. Epic Games are the creators of the widely successful battle game, Fortnite. While the company is not pro-crypto or NFTs, the CEO says the firm will not enforce any views about that subject on its users: “Developers should be free to decide how to build their games, and you are free to decide whether to play them. I believe stores and operating system makers shouldn’t interfere by forcing their views onto others. We definitely won’t.” Mojang Studio’s NFT ban has left “NFT Worlds”, a community driven play-to-earn (P2E) platform with major problems to solve. The game built on Minecraft’s open source servers has an entire crypto and NFT ecosystem built around it, with its NFTs generating over $80 million in trading volume to date. Since Minecraft’s announcement, the game’s native token WRLD has fallen by 55%. NFT Worlds team has mentioned that they are in contact with Minecraft to find a possible solution, otherwise pivot to another engine or GameFi platform.
